What you will do

The Quality Engineer will be responsible for the compliance and improvement of the facility quality system as it relates to compliance to ISO 9001:2000 as well as the Johnson Controls Manufacturing System. This position requires a continuous level of production floor visibility and is responsible for projects relating to quality systems and product quality, defect analysis, corrective action systems, lean manufacturing concepts, and continuous improvement of manufacturing aspects of safety, quality, and cost initiatives. Work within the Johnson Control Manufacturing System (JCMS) and become champion of the Quality System discipline in JCMS. Work to apply principles that will monitor and offer insight to needed improvement processes within our organization. Establish and drive a culture of continuous process improvement.

How you will do it

  • DataAnalysisusingvariousstatisticaltools(regressionanalysis,ANOVA,DOE,frequencydistributionanalysis,etc.)ofprocessdatalookingforlinkagetoscrap,lineefficiencies,uptime,maintenanceschedules,sku's.Equateprocessdatatoproductivity/costanduseittodriveimprovement.

  • Maintaindaily/weekly/monthlydatabaseandreportingsystemforvitalplantqualityoperatingparameters.Issuereports(electronicorhardcopy)to providetheplantprocessdata/informationthatallowsabasisfordaily/weekly/monthlybusinessdecisions.

  • ProcessControlEvaluations.Determinespecialcausevariationsversusrandomvariationinordertodetermineareasforreductioninoverallprocessvariation.Assistinbringingprocessesintostatisticalcontrolbeforedoingcapabilityanalysis.

  • New/existingequipmentprocesscapabilitystudies.Theneedforinitialproductionsamplingcapabilitiesaswellassamplingsoverlongerperiodsoftimetodetermineoverallprocesscapabilityimprovementsneeded.

  • Designandrunexperimentstoevaluateproductoutputsversuschangesmadetoupstreamprocesses.

  • Design/acquiretools(hardware,software,programming,gagefixtures)forprocesscontrol.

  • ProcessSpecificationsMaintenance.Review,updateandensurethatthemostrecentspecificationsareinplaceandthatprocesscontrolandcapabilitytoanyspecificationchangesinmaintained.

  • Interfacewithplantmanufacturingengineeringtoprovidetestinganddataanalysistoensureproductandprocessperformance.

  • Conductinitialproductqualification/validationrunsfornewproductsorprocesses.

  • Design,developandimproveplanttestprocedures.

  • Facilitateandleadprocessimprovementteams.Ensureproblemsolvingmethodologyisfollowed,eachqualitytools(pareto,fishbone,variouschartsandgraphs),trackandmaintaintheprogressofeachteam.

  • Maintaingagecalibrationsystem.CompleteR&Rstudiesforgages,scheduleoutsidecalibrationserviceswhererequired,andmaintainallgagesontheirrequiredcalibrationcycle.

  • InternalPlantAudits.Conductinternalplantauditsforqualitysystems(ISO9000whereapplicable,productquality,labproceduremethodology,qualityworkinstructions,recordretentionandpresentfindingsinsummaryformattoplantandQAmanagement.IssueCorrectiveActionRequestsanddofollowuptoensurethatsystemsareputinplacetoeliminatereoccurrenceofthedeficiency.

  • SupplierNonconformanceSystem.IssuesupplierNCR's,auditsupplierfacilitieswhererequired,dofollow-uptoensurecorrectiveactionshavebeeninstalledatsupplierlocationstoeliminatereoccurrenceofdefectiveproduct,anddorandomBQALsamplingofincomingsuppliedmaterialswhererequired.

  • Superviseandauditworkforaccuracyofresultsfromelectricallab,chemicallabandwarrantyteardownanalysis.

  • Log,followupandauditallSCO's/DCO'swhichaffect,eitherdirectlyorindirectly,anyproductorprocessqualityattribute.

  • UpdateProcessControl Planforequipmentmodificationsornewinstallations.

  • Implementcorrectiveactionsforcustomercomplaints.

  • Makecustomervisitsas the need arises(routineortroubleshooting) when required by customer or leadership.

  • AdditionalengineeringassignmentsasrequiredbythePlant,ManufacturingEngineeringorCorporate QA..

What we look for

  • This position requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering with three (3) years of progressive, hands on manufacturing engineering experience. In the absence of a four (4) degree in engineering, a minimum of six (6) years' experience is required.

  • This position also requires knowledge of formal problem-solving methods along with experience with financial controls and product costing.

  • This position requires experience leading ISO9001 quality management systems.

  • Previous experience with new products and process introductions along with a working knowledge of lean manufacturing practices and procedures.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, & PowerPoint) as well as Internet software and E-mail is required.

  • Demonstrated planning, organizing, inter-personal, team building, and verbal and written communication skills with proven leadership and decision-making abilities.

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing procedures, production methods (including machining and welding), shop standards, SPC and modern quality assurance applications.

  • Program Management skills, Preferred ASQ certification
