Opportunity at a Glance

Reporting to the Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer, the Senior Manager, Privacy will support data privacy initiatives across the organization. This position will collaborate closely with the Senior Counsel, Privacy and Marketing to evolve a global privacy compliance program and support operational activities across Adtalem and each of its portfolio institutions. The Senior Manager, Privacy will assist in ensuring successful and effective program development and implementation, as well as exceptional services in ongoing operation of Adtalem' s privacy program. In addition, this role will work closely with cross functional partners at our institutions, as well as the marketing team, HR, IT and other relevant stakeholders to build understanding of global data privacy protection issues and to assist in leading the implementation of compliance with applicable regulations.


Responsibilities

  • Implements the use of privacy impact assessments and data mapping to drive PIAs and DPIAs at scale in conjunction with IT and supply management.
  • Works with IT-based solutions for processing data subject access requests.
  • Partners with Sr. Privacy Counsel, Cyber Security, IT, Regulatory Affairs and Enterprise Risk Management to help manage privacy risk exposure.
  • Responsible for the operationalization of legal guidance into practical, workable, and compliant solutions for the business.
  • Working cross-functionally, manages and operationalizes record retention and destruction across the enterprise, and assists in the transformation to digital records, where appropriate.
  • Designs employee training, selects vendors, and manages content for applicable privacy, data security and information governance issues.
  • Develops a strong understanding of Adtalem's education services and related operations across Adtalem's institutions and establishes privacy by design in support of same.
  • First point of contact for internal and external data privacy inquiries, including but not limited to DSARs, privacy questions, DPIAs, and recording of processing activities.
  • Owns strategy and implementation of our privacy compliance platform's functionality, and other vendors as may be recommended, to ensure efficient and effective use of technology in compliance operations.
  • Assists in and manages the preparation, maintenance, and implementation of data privacy policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Delivers data insights and trends throughout Adtalem in support of privacy by design.
  • Develops processes for the on-boarding and review of vendors in compliance with privacy requirements, as well as processes for auditing existing vendors.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending conferences, educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Stays abreast of applicable federal and state privacy laws and accreditation standards and monitors advancements in information governance technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance.
  • Develops and executes metrics and dashboard reports to monitor the effectiveness of the data privacy program.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 7-10 years of privacy operations experience working for a large, multinational organization in a highly regulated or scrutinized industry.
  • Professional privacy certification required (e.g., CIPT/CIPM/CIPP).
  • OneTrust certification preferred.
  • The candidate must possess a working understanding of risk management, organization-wide compliance programs, and corporate communications.
  • Data privacy, governance/risk/ compliance, and/or information security operations background required.
  • Higher education, advertising, and cloud computing expertise preferred.
  • Good research skills with an ability to analyze and interpret complex information.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to understand and fulfill, the requirements of State/Federal/International Data Privacy regulations, including, but not limited to GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and FERPA.
  • Proactive and an ability to work independently.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a strong technology background.
  • Conceptual skills and a willingness and ability to think outside of the box and respectfully challenge the status quo.
  • The incumbent will interact with various levels of management, and as such, must possess superior communication skills (both written and oral), diplomacy, and "active" listening skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PPT, and Access.
Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $77996.84 and $140851.54. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
